The latest National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT) report has been released by the National Coffee Association (NCA) and shows that out-of-home coffee drinking has rebounded to pre-COVID levels. The report also shows that more Americans (60%) drank coffee in the past day, more than any other beverage (including tap water), continuing coffee’s decade-long reign as America’s favorite beverage.

The 2021 NCDT Market Research Series is an exclusive compendium of the most in-depth coffee industry market research currently available. The SCA is partnering with the NCA to help deliver key insights to coffee professionals. The specialty coffee segment of the report brings insight of particular interest to the specialty coffee community, showing that young coffee drinkers continue to drive the segment’s growth, with nearly half (49%) of 25-to-39-year-olds surveyed drinking at least one cup of specialty coffee in the past day.

Yannis Apostolopoulos, CEO of the SCA, commented:

“The SCA is pleased to see specialty coffee consumption increasing and driving new trends. This latest market research collaboration with the NCA gives the specialty coffee community greater insight than ever before into the attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors driving our segment’s growth – growth we expect to continue.”

NCA President and CEO William “Bill” Murray adds:

“It’s no surprise that home remains the most popular place to drink coffee, and that the COVID-19 pandemic drove Americans to drink more coffee at home than ever.

As COVID restrictions ease, coffee drinkers are returning to pre-pandemic routines but also keeping their favorite new coffee options like drive-through and app-based ordering. Wherever Americans go, they keep America’s favorite beverage with them.”
