What We’re Looking For

Speakers can be experts, academics, researchers, and industry leaders of all backgrounds, especially those whose voices are often underrepresented in our industry.

We encourage anyone interested in speaking at Re:co Symposium to spend some time exploring our previously published talks in order to familiarize themselves with event style and programs.

We also recommend digging into our presenter expectations and style guide—they provide important insight into how we evaluate presenters.

Re:co Talk Style

Each Re:co talk is digitally captured and professionally edited. In order to maximize impact on the stage and on video, there is a special style of presentation asked from Re:co speakers. The below describes the style:

18 minutes. The length of the talk, so it is important the delivery is incisive, persuasive, and succinct.

Focus on a story or idea. Re:co is about discussion and communicating a story or idea that is especially interesting. Keeping promotional language out of the talk is appreciated.

Use of creative visual aids through slideshows. Visual aids are central to a great Re:co talk, and slideshows are a big part of that. Minimal text and creative images resonate and connect with the audience.

Bring a new perspective and help create discussion. Speakers are encouraged to challenge colleagues, take a position, and ask pointed questions of the audience. Re:co is designed to be a safe place for ideas and debate.

Rehearse. Re:co talks are unique in that the audience is bigger, the stage setting is polished, and the cameras capture everything. Practice makes a great talk and rehearsals are encouraged.

Have fun! We encourage speakers joke, be entertaining, or self-deprecating. This is a group of peers and it will make it more comfortable and the discussion freer.
