In April we announced our exciting collaboration with the NCA to support the biannual National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT) report and publish a special report on data relating to specialty coffee. We are so pleased to offer our community this free report, bringing an insightful account of specialty coffee consumption in the US for the very first time.
“This pioneering partnership with the NCA enables us to bring analysis on consumer data to specialty coffee businesses to help them get through this challenging time and come back stronger than ever,” says Yannis Apostolopoulos, CEO of the SCA. “There are many things to celebrate about this collaboration. But we are particularly excited about the prospect of bringing analysis on specialty coffee data to members of the community, free of charge.”
Drawing on nationwide polling conducted in collaboration with the SCA, the survey suggests that specialty coffee drinkers are set to play a huge role in helping towards the post-pandemic recovery of retail coffee. When compared to traditional coffee-drinkers, four in ten American adults who drink specialty coffee each day are less satisfied with drinking coffee at home during the pandemic and are more likely to miss visiting their regular coffee shops.
NCA President and CEO Bill Murray commented, “Specialty coffee drinkers will be key to getting beloved coffee businesses back up and running post-pandemic, and no other report has ever explored their profiles and preferences in such depth. With COVID-19 restrictions loosening, this data is more important than ever. Many specialty coffee drinkers experimented with new types of coffee at home, but this new report confirms they are very eager to get back to their favorite specialty drinks and trusted baristas.”
This, along with many other insights on specialty coffee consumption available in the report, is key finding as we look towards a re-opening America. With coffee professionals and businesses having faced unprecedented challenges, we hope this report can bring valuable and, importantly, actionable insights to coffee professionals in these difficult times.
