Build Your Own Coffee Business at the First All-Guild Workshop at Expo 2021
The Barista, Coffee Roasters, and Coffee Technicians Guilds are pleased to invite you to our first-ever all-guild event: a fully immersive event designed to inspire and educate coffee professionals of all stripes while expanding our collective networks. Join us at the Specialty Coffee Expo for a hands-on, collaborative team exercise that will challenge you to develop the skills you need to build a coffee business from the ground up.
About the Workshop
Working in teams, you will have the opportunity to "build a company" from scratch — from picking a name and writing a mission statement, choosing coffees to crafting menus, selecting equipment, all the way to dialing in and serving. You'll be supported by guild leadership the whole way, and will get to see first-hand how fun and functional collaboration can be.
As a group, you’ll decide on the name of your coffee business, design a logo, and create a mission statement and values you will aim to follow and achieve over the course of the workshop. You will also design your perfect business space to cater to your vision and your customers. Next take part in three individual guild-led sessions and tackle specific business needs:
With the Coffee Roaster Guild, you will create a coffee blend that fits your designed business by post-blending different coffees. You will delve into sample roasting and decide what approach to take for your coffee business.
With the Barista Guild, you will create your set-up and choose from selected equipment to create your ideal working countertop for baristas. You will design a signature beverage using your chosen set-up and the unique coffee blend you created.
With the Coffee Technicians Guild, you will take a deep-dive into the inner workings of the machines you have chosen for your coffee business. Harness the best water for your coffee business, learn how to strike a balance between the perfect coffee extraction and low machine corrosion, and deepen your knowledge of how and why machines work the way they do — and how to identify, fix, and prevent common issues when they happen!
Join the All-Guild Workshop to gain valuable skills and knowledge, enjoy a hands-on collaborative experience and networking opportunities, and a participation gift valued at more than the price of admission!
