The Nestlé Professional Coffee Journey
Our journey begins with the humble coffee bean and extends all the way to the cup, thanks to our extensive network of experts. Placed within the organization are green coffee experts, product specialists, sustainability professionals, product developers, and coffee roasting specialists. This collaborative effort ensures that we have an encompassing view of coffee—from the farm to the cup.
Quality is at the heart of our operations, and we work with renowned brands like Nescafé, We Proudly Serve Starbucks, Buondi, Zoégas, and our in-store roasting system, Roastelier, reflect this commitment.
Leveraging SCA Training for Excellence
Elevating the expertise of our employees to better serve our customers is the cornerstone of our business. To achieve this, we integrated the foundational level curriculum of the Specialty Coffee Association’s training program into a standardized online training program, accessible to all our employees. The response has been astounding, with hundreds of Nestlé Professional team members rising to the challenge and obtaining the SCA Introduction to Coffee certificate in recent months.
Building a Robust Coffee Expert Network
Internally, we've cultivated a strong network of baristas and coffee trainers who adhere to SCA standards and practices. These dedicated individuals work hand in hand with our coffee teams and customers, delivering in-person training programs and SCA certifications. Whether it's training external baristas or our valued customers, our experts are there every step of the way.
We also encourage active participation in local SCA chapters and competitions. Our team members have not only claimed national titles in SCA barista and brewing championships but have also participated in the prestigious World of Coffee Championships. Some even serve as judges for international competitions—an acknowledgment of their expertise.
Customer Training Centers: Where Excellence Begins
Our commitment to excellence extends to our customer training centers. Several of these facilities are certified as Premier Training Campuses, offering comprehensive training programs with specialized coffee equipment. These centers are strategically located across various regions, and many of our trainers hold SCA Professional-level certifications in various modules. Some have even earned the title of Authorized SCA Trainers (AST).
Supporting the Future Baristas of the World
In 2021, we launched the Nestlé Young Baristas initiative in Colombia, and it soon expanded to Chile. The aim was clear: to nurture young talent and provide them with promising employment opportunities in the dynamic coffee industry. In 2022, we took this initiative further, spreading it across Latin America, including countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Peru, among others. The response was overwhelming, with over 400 students graduating from the Nestlé Young Barista program by the end of 2022. We are excited to expand young barista training to Central Europe and Canada.

Over the years, we’ve seen our collaboration with the SCA as a key tool in continuing to support our customers in their pursuit to Make More Possible and contribute to the growth of the coffee industry.
So far, our commitment to this journey is reflected in our corporate and personal memberships at local and global levels; incorporating and championing SCA education and standards as part of our own internal and external training programs at our certified Premier Training Campuses; participating in local SCA chapters, National, World Coffee Championships, and SCA Board of Directors. Together, we look forward to growing and nurturing this relationship in the coming years to Make More Possible and Make Coffee Better.
